Lindos Mountain Trail

Through the valley between the mountains

A walk through the mountains that form the backdrop to Lindos

Although this trail is more challenging than many of the walks on this website, the reward is the amazing views. From the highest point of the path, broad vistas can be seen taking in the whole of Navarone Bay from Pefkos to Lindos. The trail then leads through the valley between the Marmari and Zara mountains where the boulders are larger than the trees. The route leads down to the beach before returning to Lindos taking in a cliff chapel along the way, set in a cave in the hills above Vlicha Beach.

Exploring Pefkos Peninsular

Stunning views of the coast to Lindos

A 6 mile walk around the Pefkos peninsular

This walk is an exploration around the peninsular that forms the backdrop to what is commonly known as Navarone Bay, or to give its correct name St Nicholas' Bay. The area is being developed and no doubt tracks and trails may change in subsequent years, making accessibility easier. For now, in 2019, it is still pretty wild and a treat to explore.

Haraki to Kalathos

Haraki beach

A 5.5 mile walk along the Rhodes coast from Haraki to Kalathos

Although short, this is a good afternoons walk along the beach around the bay between the two villages of Haraki and Kalathos. Once out of Haraki the beach becomes deserted of people with the barren land dotted with olive trees on one side and the deep blue sea on the other. The beach is shingle and can become heavy going but for some of the distance there is a dirt track just beyond the beach which makes for easier walking. Take it easy, with stops to dip ones feet in the sea and this makes a relaxing introduction to Rhodes walking.

Walk to Masari Mountain Chapel

The mountain with the chapel on it

A walk to the chapel on the summit of the mountain to the immediate north east of Masari

This is not a clamber up the sides of a scrub and rocky mountain, but follows a track that curves around the mountain which looms behind Masari village. At the summit is a small chapel where a deserved rest can be taken before returning along the same route. Do not be taken in that this is easy. With little in the way of shade, this is a tough climb in the heat. Take plenty of water and do not attempt in the heat of summer.

Expedition to Lardos Castle

Lardos Castle from the track

A walk to discover the ruined remains of Lardos Castle

It would appear that few folk know that Lardos once had a Castle, let alone know of its location. This walk sets out to offer a route to discover this piece of history which is said to date from Byzantine times of the 12th century or even earlier. Little remains of the castle, but the substantial wall with a ruined square tower at its eastern end is an impressive sight that makes the walk a well worth expedition.
